What Is It?
The gastric balloon is a non-surgical intervention to assist in weight loss! A soft, vegan, inflatable balloon made from medical-grade polyurethane is placed in the stomach without the need for surgery or endoscopy. Once inserted and inflated, the balloon works by reducing appetite and prolonging the feeling of fullness by taking up space inside the stomach.
Who is it recommended for?
This ‘procedureless’ balloon is a revolutionary solution for those who have tried other methods but failed to lose or maintain their weight. It is recommended for patients ineligible for bariatric surgery, patients with medical conditions that improve with weight loss, those with obesity and infertility issues like PCOS, or anyone wanting to lose weight for a significant event such as a wedding or holiday.
How it works
The placement of the Allurion balloon takes around 20 minutes while the patient is awake. Two x-rays are taken after swallowing the capsule and after inflation of the balloon to ensure correct positioning in the stomach.
The patient will be monitored briefly before being allowed to return home.
The ‘procedureless’ Allurion balloon will self-deflate and naturally pass out of the body.
